In order to achieve results a general manager needs to lead the way, managing and coaching the team, demonstrating authority, finding balance in a highly volatile environment and acting agile. The general manager needs to put its team members in their role, providing clarity through strategy, empower others while at the same time be specific on expectations.
A general manager must be able to work with others and to lead without formal authority. Managers lead changes for his/her business and organizational unit, dealing with resistance and ambiguous situations. Despite not being hierarchically in charge of all functions, conceptual and practical integration is still needed.
